PlayStation Network suffers global outage, thousands report connectivity issues

Many PlayStation users had trouble connecting to the PlayStation Network (PSN) on Friday evening due to a major outage. The issue started around 5:20 p.m. ET, and by 5:49 p.m., over 68,000 complaints were reported. Most users (78%) had server connection issues, while others struggled with logging in (19%) or faced other problems (3%).

Users Locked Out of Online Services

The outage happened at a busy time when many gamers were logging in after work or school. Players couldn’t access friends lists, account settings, or make purchases from the PlayStation Store. Sony acknowledged the problem and assured users they were working on a fix.

All PlayStation Consoles Affected

The issue impacted PS5, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, and web services. Those trying to log in received an error message saying “PlayStation Network is currently undergoing maintenance (WS-37432-9)”. The only options were to dismiss the message or visit Sony’s support website.

Nearly 70,000 Complaints but No Explanation Yet

Sony hasn’t explained what caused the outage or how long it will take to fix. Players flooded social media and outage-tracking websites with reports, confirming the widespread nature of the problem.

Sony’s Response

Sony briefly acknowledged the issue on its PSN Service Status page, confirming that all services are down. This means PS4 and PS5 players can’t log in, buy games, watch PlayStation Video, or play online.

PlayStation’s Official Statement

On social media, PlayStation’s support team posted:

“We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN. For more details, check the PlayStation Status Page.”

This doesn’t explain why the outage happened, but it does confirm that Sony is working on a fix. Usually, server issues are resolved quickly, but this outage has lasted longer than usual.

Global Impact

Initially, reports suggested the outage was limited to the United States, but now it’s clear that PlayStation users worldwide are affected.
